Firelight Bible Learning Curriculum
in a Workshop Rotation Model (WoRM) setting

      The overall theme of our WoRM Sunday School is "All God's Critters Got a Place in the Choir." The WoRM reorganizes the way we teach, not what we teach. This year's theme is "Wonder Stories: Learning Jesus' Miracles ." Each story within this unit is taught in a creative "kid-friendly" atmosphere.

· Drama/Puppets/Skits (Scene and Herd Room);
· Art (Paw Prints Room);
· Audio-Visual and Music (AV-iary Room);
· Bible Skills and Games (Bible Safari Room);
· Cooking (The Critter Café); and
· Storytelling (Fish Tales Room)
· Science (The Church Mouse Room)

          Children rotate by groups into a different workshop each week for a four-to-six-week period. During that period the story they learn is the same in each workshop. Kids love the repetition and need it to remember their lessons. Because each of the workshops teaches through a different style of learning, the kids don't get bored. Instead, this multiple-intelligences approach enhances the learning process. Of course, each lesson includes Bible study and discussion and a memory verse.

Middle School Confirmation Class - Sunday at 9:15 a.m., Youth Apartment. Mike and Martha Bradley, Leaders

         The class will use the "We Believe" curriculum Professing Our Faith. This will be a 7-session course for youth aged twelve and older to understand their baptism, their faith commitment, and their place in the church.

Senior High Class - Sunday at 9:15 a.m., Youth Apartment

        The first study for fall is The 24/7 Experience – a DVD Curriculum on Following Jesus Every Day. In an episodic, reality-TV style, The 24/7 Experience takes students on a journey to learn what it means to follow Christ in the 21st century. Students learn about following, love, justice, unity, spiritual gifts, and being “in the desert.”

Christian Living Adult Class - Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in Room 106
Patterson Lyles, Teacher .

          Living the Questions (LtQ) is a study to help people wrestle with basic questions often avoided by the Christianity they grew up with. It is an open-minded alternative to studies that attempt to give participants all the answers and instead strives to create an environment where participants can interact with one another in exploring what's next for Christianity. In the words of one pastor: “While LtQ does not provide pat answers to pressing questions about God and faith, it does more than just ask questions. In conversation with a wide variety of biblical scholars, theologians and other scholars in the field of religion, LtQ offers participants a broader context in which to formulate their own answers

Adult Bible Study Class - Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in Room 108

Ray Joellenbeck , Coordinator
           The Present Word is from beginning to end a Bible study series.  Teachers and learners come together to reflect on the biblical text and to act on what they discover there. The general theme for the fall quarter challenges us to see the New Testament through the lens of community. The study begins by first looking at the four gospels and the birth of a new community, then moves to an exploration of the development and work of this new community with a study of the book of Acts. It concludes with the growing pains the new community experienced through conflict, struggle and persecution as described in the epistles.

The Wednesday Word -
Selected Wednesdays throughout the year from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
      "The Wednesday Word" will be special interest studies that will be offered in short course fashion for a period of four to six weeks at different times throughout the year. Different subjects will be studied and discussed.

Pray and Play - Sundays during worship after Children’s Time for children 3-years-old through 1st grade; Terri Lyles, Coordinator

         After Children’s Time in the worship service, various members of the church provide a time of Pray and Play for young children aged 3-years through kindergarten.  The leaders use Gospel Grams to lead a brief Bible study, have a prayer, supervise playtime, and serve juice and cookies.

Prayer and Bible Study Group - Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., Room 100; Bonnie Watts, Study Leader

         This group gathers each Tuesday to pray for our church’s ministry, its staff and members, others in our community, and any specific needs that are brought to their attention. You have the opportunity to make prayer requests by using the prayer request cards and the Prayer Box in the narthex. Beginning September 9 the group will be using the study Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us--Marys and Marthas alike--can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.
