Theme: Sunday School – It’s for Life
Wonderful things happen in Sunday School . . . sometimes. Sunday School will show its promise with just a little more attention. Sunday school can touch the lives of everyone in the congregation – from the very young to the very old.
Sunday School – it’s for life!
Lifelong Life-giving About real life
Connected to the Source of life
Sunday School is a place where people and churches can be transformed:
- Growing leaders for the church’s mission
- Increasing people’s sense of belonging and commitment to stewardship
- Providing a place for new people to make friends and learn to grow as disciples
- Deepening people’s understanding of God’s activity in all of life
4-cents-a-meal offering will be received on August 22
The 4-cents-a-meal Program provides an opportunity for individuals and families to participate in a corporate response to world hunger. By contributing 4-cents per person at each meal we are reminded of the needs of others and our call as Christians to respond to their hunger. Daily participation is a reminder that hunger is a daily reality for millions of our neighbors. The gifts are simple: only 4-cents a meal per person per day. However, when joined with the gifts of others, they truly become a miracle of multiplication, much like that of our Lord who took what someone shared and fed the multitudes with bread and fish.
We receive this offering quarterly. Please bring the money you have put aside for the last three months on August 22.
Presbyterian Youth fundraiser dinner is planned for August 22
Come and help our youth group get to Sunset Gap Mission Camp and pay for materials for the building project there. All proceeds from this dinner will go toward this wonderful project. Help us share God’s love in Appalachia!
Please reserve the date; details about the theme and cost will be announced in the Sunday bulletins and on this site.
August mission emphasis is PC(USA) world missions
Philip and Bacilia Beisswenger for Middle Tennessee Presbytery are newly appointed mission co-workers
On July 8 at General Assembly 15 new mission co-workers were commissioned. They will be spanning the globe in their assignments, from Europe to Asia, the Middle East to Latin America. Two of the 15, the Rev. Philip and Bacilia Beisswenger, who will serve as Facilitators for Mission Delegations and Partnerships in Guatemala, are from right here in middle Tennessee.
Before entering mission service Philip served as pastor of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville for eight years while also coordinating the Hispanic ministries of Middle Tennessee Presbytery. Bacilia was lead teacher in the preschool program of the Bethlehem Center of Nashville. They are the parents of three children, Matthew, Manuel and Estefana. The Beisswengers have been active in Middle Tennessee Presbytery’s partnership with the Presbytery of the Peten in Guatemala.
In their new position they will assist mission teams and other delegations from the U.S. who visit Guatemala and will help develop new partnerships and aid communication between partnering bodies. When Presbyterians visit Guatemala the Beisswengers will help set up in-country logistics and plan the educational program and itinerary with trip leaders. In addition, they will help Guatemalan Presbyterians who make exchange visits to the U.S. by working with the U.S. Consulate and by interpreting for them the context of U.S. culture and church life.
We are called on not just to take care of the neighbors we can see but also to stand with our brothers and sisters around the world. It goes directly back to Jesus’ ministry. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus commissions his disciples to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Or, as the same passage in The Message puts it: “Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life.” In the book of Acts: “You will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the world.”
We definitely have a biblical mandate to be involved in world missions.
Here is a unique opportunity for us to support directly PC(USA) missionaries from our own Presbytery. The Mission Committee is recommending that our World Mission offering this year be sent in support of the Beisswengers.
Let us continue to keep in mind what a difference each of us can make in meeting the needs for increased support of PC(USA) mission personnel. Let us support our brothers and sisters in Christ who are dedicating their lives to mission work by giving as generously as we can to World Missions. Any amount can make a difference. Make your check out to F.P.C. and designate it “World Missions” or put your contribution in a pew envelope and mark it “World Missions.”

Now is a good time
Search your house, closets and storage shed for rummage. The Annual Church Rummage Sale is on the calendar for Saturday, October 9, but why not take some time this summer to sort through your “stuff” and see what you might contribute to the rummage sale sponsored by the Mission Committee. Think furniture, decorative items, lamps, book shelves, kitchen utensils, toys in good shape with ALL the pieces, working electronic items, tools, yard equipment, sports equipment, and most any other “stuff” in usable condition.
